When I was ill - discombobulated - in the Underworld in the desert in Morocco, so cold, alone in tent, cloudy bleak landscape …..
I turned to my “music” file on phone…. for solace ...
An even though there was "no internet”, up came an extraordinary talk, by Peter Kingsly,
“Path”
( a reference that will be a resource for our unfurling gatherings because tis so
pertinently pithy)
Synchronously deft for exactly what I needed..
And then I had a spooky dream….
Whose resonance continues…. will delineate when we gather...
Origins of Western Culture as intrinsically sacred…
logic as a journey to transcendence….
And as the originating impulse died, and was buried in the West, the best of Western sacred thought, was honored and kept alive in Islam, and pre-Islamic mystical teachings….including the Qaballah
and Berber Dream World...
(And then Kingsley’s talk twas quirkily followed in serendipitous queue, by a talk I gave in 2018, that was bleeping fantastic- we shall excavate and make available- listening to both was deeply comforting and intriguing…)
Kingsly was addressing the dedicated teachings of Ibn Arabi,
(Whose name was invoked in our Moroccan travel group - but without nutrient content… here was what was missing in the group..)
Ibn 'Arabī[a] (July 1165–November 1240) was a Sunni Muslim Arab scholar, Sufi mystic, poet, and Muslim
philosopher from al-Andalus, who exercised notable influence within Sufi metaphysics and Islamic thought in general. There are 850 works attributed to Ibn 'Arabi, though only 700 of these are considered authentic, and only 400 are extant. His cosmological teachings became a dominant intellectual framework in many regions of the Muslim world.
We were traveling part of his journey
in Marrakech
and Fes….
2500 years ago, and Arabi’s 12th c - people were really traveling - for knowledge and to then be messengers ….
