Tis a Hail Rumi pass, that got me here,
and In Trickster We Trust, will get me home.
I arrived on Beloved ally, now Beloved Ancestor, Coleman Bark’s birthday.
The Sabian for his Sun 3+ Taurus - “the Rainbow’s pot of gold lies shimmering in the mist.”
Controversy, of course, re Coleman’s popularizing Rumi, while not knowing Farsi, and omitting Rumi's deep Islamic connection.
I was there, or imagine I was, when Robert Bly tossed some translations of Rumi to Coleman: “Here, these
poems are in prison - set them free!”…
And many of the translations I have read by Farsi speakers are oft a trifle earnest, missing the wit and play, that Coleman brought.
Our journey Guide, Omid Safi (connecting with him and our group tomorrow in Marrakech), also a friend of Coleman’s, is writing a book on this subject.
Something oft omitted, as well, is that Rumi was also an astrologer
Thanks to Turkish astro colleague Baris Ilhan for translation:
