closest to the Sun— will coincide with a SUPERMOON (a Full Moon when the Moon is closest to Earth). The last time this happened was in 1912, and it won't happen again until 2045!!! 🌞🌏🌝

My friends and followers know that I post about the
Perihelion every year, but this year's Perihelion is obviously special. I've always thought that New Year's Eve is actually an unconscious Perihelion festival— so the cosmic celebration this year should be unusually festive!!! 🥳 (The exact Perihelion will be January 3, 2026 at 9:15 am PST.)
And as an added bonus: the Supermoon on January 3 will ALSO be in VERY visible conjunction with Jupiter— the
"King" of the planets— which is right now at its maximum brightness, since it's almost directly opposite the Sun (exact opposition January 10). If skies are clear on January 3, you won't be able to miss Jupiter near the Supermoon, since the Moon and Jupiter will be the two brightest objects in the entire night sky!
